BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO ENGRAVING Engraving in its simplest form is the removal of an area from the surface of an object, which is usually flat, with a sharp instrument (in our case an engraving cutter). The removed area usually forms wording or a design, in some cases the removed area is replaced with paint to create an engraved nameplate or engraved plaque etc.
The discipline of hand engraving still survives in a few specialized fields but in most industrial cases hand engraving has been replaced with CNC engraving.
CNC Engraving machines are computer controlled vertical & horizontal Engravers with the ability to move the spindle along the Z-axis. When combined with the use of Engraving tools it significantly improves Engraving precision + increases workrate, providing a cost-efficient system for most flat-surface engraving work.
Laser Engraving is the practice of using lasers to engrave or mark an object. The technique can be very technical and complex, a computer system is used to drive the movements of the laser head so that very precise and clean engravings can be achieved at a high rate. The technique does not involve tool bits which contact the engraving surface and wear out. This is considered an advantage over alternative engraving technologies where bit heads have to be replaced regularly.
